Christmas Break!

Christmas break is now drawing to a close here in Chicago. Only a couple more days of freedom before we have to go back to school. We had a great vacation with lots of time spent with family. We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner of turkey sandwiches and cole slaw at Grandma and Grandpa Boven's nursing home. We also got to play some cricket at the Francis Fruit Farm (see Beth nearly getting Dave out on a foolish run).

All in all, the new year is going well and God is guiding us safely through our first year in Chicago. Have a blessed day.

Settling In...

Well...we've now been in Chicago for a few weeks. It has been a struggle sometimes to get back into the swing of things, but I thought I'd post a little update for those in Germany (as they make up the majority of those that know of this blog's existence). My job has been going very well! Teaching at an inner-city public school is a lot different from BFA, but it is still a joy. I've been tackling two sections of Economics and three sections of World Studies. Beth has been teaching at a small Christian school in Chicago, and teaching middle school students about Science. Overall, we are settling in and getting comfortable here. It would be nice if God would let us be here for a couple years, but we'll be ready if He uproots us again to send us somewhere else. I'm sure that I'll post on here again, but don't hold your breath.

Update...

Well...it's been several weeks since last I posted on this blog. Things have changed a lot for the Boven family. We are now living a semi-nomadic life in the United States. We have no permanent address, yet, but we're working on it. For now our time is split between Southwest Michigan and the Chicago area. We're been back in this country for about two weeks and have been busy job hunting. On that front, we had some good news last Friday.

After attending a job fair at Soldier Field for the Chicago Public Schools, I got an interview at a high school on the southwest side. On Friday, I went in for the interview and they decided to offer me a job teaching economics to high schoolers. We haven't officially accepted the position, yet, but it looks like God is pushing us through this open door. An inner city Chicago school should be a bit different than teaching at Black Forest Academy, but it will be an exciting adventure. Beth is still searching for a job, but we now have a basic area to look at. At least we are sure that God has something planned for us!

So that brings everyone fairly well up to date on the life of the Bovenator and the Bovenatoress. Have a blessed day!

Mrs Boven and I are nearly ready to move back to the US. We leave on Tuesday to travel to Dublin (where we'll visit the Chief Herald of Ireland). We'll be there for two days before traveling to Chicago. From there, everything is wide open...no jobs lined up yet, but we're still sure that God has something planned. I just wanted to give all of my fans an update on the goings on. Blessings.

Blog Entry

Here is an interesting picture to keep my rabid fans happy. It is from the BFA Spring Party last weekend. The photograph was taken before the sophomore guys so kindly helped me into the creek. For those that are wondering, I was not "creeked." I was simply getting a little bit warm at the party and asked my students to help me into the water to cool off. Have a wonderful weekend!
